Snail mail

English version follows
Vannboren rullebane nytter lite for store fly!

Snail mail
Rain and five degrees one day – and minus 18 degrees the other day gives problems for the planes. In Longyear rain kept pouring down and flooded the runway for many days. In Ny-Ålesund we got up early every morning to clear the runway for snow and prepare for landing. But every day we got the same message; still too mild in Longyear! The fraise snail mail sure got a new meaning as we did not get any mail for a week. When the conditions finally were good enough, we’ve spent six early mornings and 47.5 hours of work on the runway – to get one plane! Amazing. Some people lost the chance to go on a weekend trip to Tromsø for the third weekend in a row. The rest of us were happy to get mail and glad we did not plan to leave the Arctic. Global warming sucks. Now we want temperatures below minus 20, planes, mail and normal conditions. And of course no open rivers and perfect snow for skis and scooters…!
